(More customer reviews)Although my skin chemistry has been quite kind to metal strings over my 50-year love affair with steel-stringed guitars, etc., the Elixirs tend to last exceptionally long, in tune when I pick up the instrument, and sounding just fine to these old ears... for incredible amounts of time. I almost had to set a reminder to change my strings this year!
There are so many opinions as to which string brand is best for which instrument, and I've really not been able to hear most debated differences in my own boxes. I've tended to stick with Elixirs for about 15 years now, and generally use a bit heavier gauge (ex: med-light, or Med) if the guitar can take it. You should hear a Lowden C-25 cedar/ Rosewood with Mediums!!!
I just changed mediums on my Goodall 12 (doing it myself saved $35.00 at a local shop, and the Amazon-purchased strings cost less than $20.00!), tuned it by ear to my 6 string, and 4 hours later played a small personal concert for our son and his new lady with no further tuning needed (and no, they're not hearing-impaired!). Of course, the great instrument has something to do with tuning stability, as does climate (my guitars are (sadly, as I can't gaze fondly on them all the time) kept in hardshell cases within reasonable temperatrue limits in So. California. I use no humidifiers except "hot air"(LOL).
2 packs of 12s for a little over $12.00 each is a great bargain for a quality product.
