(More customer reviews)First off, carefully read the specs of the size of this light before you consider buying it. My impression from the photos I saw was of a light roughly the diameter of a wine bottle. Needless to say I was surprised when I saw the box sitting on my doorstep. (It's about the diameter of a frisbee)
As for the light itself the strobe flashes either based on a speed knob or a built-in microphone with a sensitivity knob. I prefer the sound active mode set to match the bass beat, although on either mode you will have to stand there and adjust the knob for a minute to get things working correctly when you first set things up. On the speed setting you will need to control the light pretty frequently to keep it from giving people headaches! You can create a great effect in a completely dark room by using the speed setting on a slow pulse.
Another thing of note: This light is extremely bright; pro-quality! I have it in my living room and it fills the room like an explosion. It's to the point that I have to aim it at a wall so it doesn't temporarily blind or daze anyone.
The hanging bracket is sturdy and you'll want to use it instead of resting the light on a table. If you don't have a lighting stand or truss system you probably don't want this nice of a strobe light! This is a pro-sumer level light.
This is probably the most bang for your buck of any strobe light I could find. The next step up from this you'd want DMX control so you don't have to stand around fiddling with the knobs.
