(More customer reviews)Back when I was in a touring band, playing 3 or 4 nights a week, I used Ken Smith strings. They were the cheapest I could find and I changed my strings often so I needed to save some dough. Now that I'm only playing a couple of times a month, I've switched to Elixirs. I probably play the same amount of gigs per set of strings as I used to, but now it takes me 6-months to play as many gigs as I put on the Smith's in a month and the Elixirs hold up better over time. Then again, if I was one of those players that wiped his bass down at the end of the night, cheaper strings would probably last me longer too. I'm just not that guy.
BTW...If you're a 5-string player with a bass that loads the strings through the back, watch out for the Elixir 5th string being too short!

Elixir Strings revolutionized guitar strings by finding a way to extend the life of wound strings without compromising the tone. Polyweb coated strings have a balanced tone and smooth response - they sound like strings that have been "played in". Nanoweb coated strings sound and feel like uncoated strings - they are bright and lively, and the coating is so micro thin that you can barely tell it's there.
